Illuminating Hand Rails

A handrail you can see — and see by. We build LED lighting into the handrail itself, so the light runs the full length of the stair and throws down onto the treads where you walk. No separate fixtures, no glare in your eyes — just a clean rail that lights the way after dark, indoors and out.

Every rail is designed and fabricated in-house, in metal and wood, and made to fit your stair — straight runs, switchbacks, landings and long exterior flights.

Indoor lighted handrails

Inside the house, a lighted handrail turns a stair into a feature at night and a safe path in the dark — entries, floating stairs, basement and loft stairs. It pairs with the pre-installed LED tread lighting available on every CAPO staircase, so the rail and the treads can light together or on their own.

Outdoor lighted handrails

Outside, the rail lights the steps themselves — front entries, walkways, hillside and commercial stairs where a wall light or a lamp post leaves the treads in shadow. The white-light installations pictured here are our lighted handrails at Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, photographed on exterior stairs at night, in snow.

How it works

  • The light is built into the underside of the handrail and runs the length of the rail.

  • It lights the treads and the walking surface, not the room — so stairs stay usable and safe at night without turning on overhead lights.

  • Available in painted steel and stainless steel.

  • Low-voltage LED lighting. Also available with color-changing RGB lights.

Tell us about your stair — indoor or outdoor — and we’ll price a lighted handrail for it.
